System Mechanic®: Wins 2009 Product of the Year Award

Government Computing News, an independent print and online publication which focuses on information technology in the public sector, announced iolo technologies’ System Mechanic as the winner of their 2009 Product of the Year award.

LOS ANGELES, CA – Dec. 15, 2009 –  Government Computing News, an independent print and online publication which focuses on information technology in the public sector, announced iolo technologies’ System Mechanic as the winner of their 2009 Product of the Year award. The #1 best-selling PC tune-up software had previously earned a rarely awarded A+ rating and the coveted Government Computer News’ Reviewer’s Choice designation, and this week was chosen from more than three hundred products reviewed by the publication throughout 2009 as one of the eight best products of the year “that can help a government agency face the challenges of the second decade of this new millennium.”

iolo’s System Mechanic software, which is designed to resolve PC problems, improve overall performance, and keep aging computers operating in optimal condition longer, was called “the crème de la crème” of PC tune-up software that “bested every other product in its class and rose to the top via hardcore testing.” This “serious tune-up tool for your PC” which “can give users peace of mind along with powerful tools” was praised by GCN in the award write-up for the “noticeable and measurable change” in PC performance, “helping your older hardware perform as well as technically possible” and “saving you a lot of money by avoiding costly new computer buys. For that alone, System Mechanic could be the hero of the current economy.”

Of the approximately 25 million public sector employees in the U.S.,[1] nearly 70 percent rely on computers at work, compared to only 50 percent in the private sector.[2] As a result of the government’s high proportions of managerial and professional specialty jobs with extensive rates of computer and internet use, computers are becoming irreplaceable and critical to public sector work success. Educational institutions, for instance, which comprise approximately half of the entire U.S. public sector workforce,[3] have experienced a dramatic increase in computer usage. Even by 2003, 100 percent of public schools were using computers and internet,[4] up from 50 percent recorded in 1995.[5]

“Considering the increased reliance on computers at work, as well as the current strain on government spending as a result of recent economic challenges, PC maintenance is of critical importance to all categories of the public sector,” says Noah Rowles, founder and CEO of iolo technologies. “The issue is no longer whether or not to incorporate computers into the government, but rather how to do so efficiently and with maximum sustainable benefit. Keeping machines in optimal condition to minimize work disruption, loss of productivity, and premature replacement costs is a cornerstone of this mandate, and exactly what System Mechanic is designed to do.”

System Mechanic was originally reported by Government Computer News in the April 6th review as “one of our favorite utility suites for users at all levels” that “proved powerful and useful” and “can prevent PCs from aging before their time.” System Mechanic – in its newest version 9.5 – is compatible with both 32 and 64 bit versions of Windows 7, Vista and XP. A base license that allows installation on up to three PCs can be purchased for $49.95 (SRP) from all major retailers, e-tailers and iolo.com. System Mechanic Business edition offers more competitive pricing for larger organizations with up to 100 computers and more.
